Enough of this. There are too many dead, too many tears shed, too many lives stolen by hate, ignorance, and fear. There are too many wonderful people that have had their lives cut short because of a trigger, a deity, or simply leaving a gun where a curious child can reach it. We’re in a time where carelessness is being matched by fascist bias, and it’s enough of this.
Last night was a type of horror words cannot fully describe. As with any tragedy it’s common place for social media to come out with “prayers for orlando” or “love not hate” messages, which are all well intended, and I’m not meaning to knock them, but how many more times do we need to put up the same logo with a different community symbol before we start taking action?
When are going to start pointing fingers and taking action against those that are truly causing this violence and encouraging it? When will the National Rifle Association be held accountable? When will the lackluster gun laws be held accountable? When will those that jump to racial profiling when we hear the word “terrorism” be held accountable?
This is election season. This is the time to reach out and make a difference with your vote. You no longer have the luxury to be apathetic to what’s happening in this country, or any country. The United States has its fingers dipped deep into so many other countries, what happens here affects everywhere else. The United Kingdom has declared the United States an unsafe place for anyone in the LGBTQIA community that might be traveling here. WHAT DOES THAT SAY TO YOU?
This is not the place for Islamophobia to grow through others grief. This is not the place for right-wing politics to exploit the dead to further push fear where there is no need for fear. We stand in solidarity with all walks of life. Love is love and let it be just that.
